PRISM AESTHETICS: SEMAGLUTIDE VS. TIRZEPATIDE

At PRISM we carry generic compounds of the medications tirzepatide and semaglutide, commonly prescribed for type 2 diabetes, which have become a more prevalent form of weight loss management.

Tirzepatide, marketed as Mounjaro, acts as a glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, mimicking both hormones. This dual action suggests a potential additional benefit for weight loss.

On the other hand, semaglutide is available under the brand names Ozempic, Wegovy, and Rybelsus. Among these semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist, imitates the GLP-1 hormone, inducing feelings of satiety and reducing hunger.

In clinical trials, it was found that patients lost on semaglutide 6-12% body weight in 12-28 weeks, whereas tirzepatide yielded 21% in just 12 weeks - Justifying an increase in the overall popularity due to the effectiveness of tirzepatide.

Comparative studies between semaglutide and tirzepatide have indicated varying outcomes. A 2023 study found tirzepatide to be more effective for weight loss, despite its higher cost, suggesting better value. Another study from 2021 reached a similar conclusion favoring tirzepatide.

Typically, patients experience fewer side effects on tirzepatide when compared to those on semaglutide. Common adverse symptoms people experience on these medications include constipation, diarrhea, indigestion, and nausea. Any serious side effects such as continuous vomiting, severe abdominal pain, severe nausea, or any other concerning side effects should be reported to your prescriber.

If you are looking to start your weight loss journey, these medications may just be the solution and we at PRISM Aesthetics would love to help guide you through the process. We offer free consultations and if you are to go through with the treatment plan, the following is included: labs, in-body scans, B-12 Shots, a month's worth of the medication prescribed, and a monthly meeting with one of our Nurse Practitioners.
